God is joy, the creator of joy in mankind and He brings joy to His own.
God’s greatness joy is in His relationships. His relationships with Jesus and the Holy Spirit bring joy to each other. They delight in each other and work to serve one another in love. The love of God is then spread to people and those who have turned their life toward God are His delight.
God is our Father and He has great joy in loving us and providing for our needs. He also enjoys the time He spends with those who have received His gift of Christ as their personal Savior. He has joy in His adopted children who have been saved through Christ’s death and resurrection.
God also delights in his creation. And, wow… isn’t His creation wonderful!
The joy of God in us begins when we have a relationship with Him. Our sin has caused us to seperate ourselves from God. So, to begin having joy and overwhelming happiness in your life you must become a child of God.
When will joy for you begin? When you repent and turn from your sin, confess your sins and believe that Jesus Christ paid for the penalty of your sin by dying on the cross and rising from the dead giving you victory over sin. Upon receiving Christ as your personal Savior, God will adopt you as His own child and you’ll become joint heirs with Christ. Your renewed relationship with God as your Father is where the truest joy of your life begins.
It’s a happy and joyful day of gladness and rejoicing when God Almighty becomes your Dad!
Your joy you be filled up and overflowing as you spend time with God your Father each day. Reading the Bible, God’s Word, will be a fountain of joy for your soul. Through pray and worship of God, your heart will be grateful to Him and gratefulness always produces joy.
When God is Dad, you have a lot to smile about. And being a loving Father, He has given us gifts.
God first gave us the gift of salvation through giving us His only Son to die for us. Once saved we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit and His power. The Holy Spirit is God himself living inside our hearts and giving us His joy. Every Christian living within the power of the Holy Spirit will radiate joy.
Joy is the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life. And expressing your happiness to all those around you will often lead others to want the joy you have found. A joyful heart that is overflowing will continually spread the good news of the gospel so others too may have the joy of God.

The supernatural joy of the Lord starts with a Savior, is received by abiding in Jesus, displayed through the fruit of the Holy Spirit within you and it’s an everlasting joyfulness that no one can take from you.
Great Joy Starts with a Savior
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men.”
—Luke 2:8-14
Joy Comes from Abiding in Jesus
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
—John 15:5
Continuing in John 15… Jesus teaches his disciples how to love and gave commandments to follow… He then said,
“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”
—John 15:11
Joy is the Fruit of the Holy Spirt within You
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
—Galatians 5:22-23
God’s Joy in Your Life is Eternal… It Never Ends!
“..and the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
—Isaiah 35:10

The joy of the Lord is your strength!
A depressive attitude is always a result of thinking about yourself. Most often, depression is a result of ongoing sadness about one’s circumstances, a death of a loved one or possibly sorrow over failed relationships. It can be a result of past mistakes and potentially means you have no hope for tomorrow. You are completely broken.
To get out of depression you must stopping thinking about yourself. So how?
You must renew your mind and turn to God to get out of your depression. Only God can remove your sorrow and replace it with an everlasting joy that gives you a gladness of heart everyday. Let’s look at a song of praise from King David, who went through his share of burdens in life:
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: Come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; And his truth endureth to all generations.”
—Psalm 100:1-5
Overflowing joy in your life will be from you experiencing God’s love for you. God is the only source of continuous unconditional love. If you want to get out of your depression, it will start with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
—Matthew 11:28-30

Joy is contagious. Try it!
Smile as big as you can all day… smile each time you make eye contact with someone today and start with your family when you wake up. When you smile the entire day, you’ll find a lot of people smile back… and it makes you happy.
What if you could give everyone you know the gift of joy…? Imagine wrapping joy in a box with instructions inside of how to experience overflowing joy everyday. Upon opening it, your friends and family would experience amazing joy and pure happiness until they almost burst How many people would you give the gift of joy to? Everyone of course!
Well you have that opportunity. You can give everyone you meet God’s gift of salvation which brings shouts of joy . And upon receiving salvation through Jesus Christ your friends and family will be given the gift of the Holy Spirit which provides them with deep inner joy that never fades. Plus with these gifts comes the instructions of how to maintain the joy of salvation forever.
The story of giving joy to a lame man:
“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God:”
—Acts 3:6-9
When people pursue money and possessions to give them joy… they find instead brokenness. What they really need is Jesus Christ. The need to be healed from their sin and given salvation through Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection from the dead giving victory over sin.
When you give the gift of God’s salvation to everyone you meet you will be spreading great joy and a lot of people will smile back.
